Overseas jobs

Well, I did something interesting on the phone with Dell Financial Services yesterday.
They answered and right away I could tell I was reaching a country other then the US. Most likely India.
I asked my question and they were able to answer it pretty quickly. I Find it interesting that you can't pay a technology company online for their technology products.
At the end of the call she said "Is there anything else I can help you with?" to which I replied.....
"No, and thank you for taking a job from a hard working American"
Now, I know they are trying to make a living like anyone else, and I should be mad at Dell, not at the poor rep on the end of the phone, but with all the people I know who got laid off so this rep could have a job, I am quite annoyed. And for once, it just came out.
I wonder when my company is going to ship off. Hopefully not any time soon.

Date: 2004-08-10 02:24 pm (UTC)I recently had a similar experience. I had bought a new HP computer. Obviously their customers service is in india also. As every person I talked to had an indian accent. which none of them I could understand. I finally asked. Is there anybody there who speaks good fucking english with no accent. They finally put one person on the line who spoke good English. I then turned around and sent them a nasty letter stating that if I knew you outsourced jobs. I would never have bought a computer from you. And next time I make a computer purchase it will not be an HP

Date: 2004-08-10 07:24 pm (UTC)I asked the lady (who was very much Indian) if she was located in India, and she said, "sir, we are not allowed to say, but we are at an offshore location".
That sucks.
Now wait a minute...
Date: 2004-08-11 05:54 am (UTC)She probably took a job from some lazy kid that wasn't listening to what the problem was and simply went down the support path, wasting the company's time and the customers.
The people I know that are or were good CSRs at Dell or have been good CSRs have either gone elsewhere or been promoted to the top level positions. In both cases, there was lots of grousing about how they were the ones doing the work, and I have no reason to doubt them.
Having been laid off cause a company folded, I know its not fun being on the bench, but it opened up other opportunities.
