Day 2

Ohh, Day 1 is the same as day 2.

I decided it was time to get really serious about my weight. I moved the alarm clock to the dresser across the room so I have to get out of bed to turn it off. This has helped for sure, though, I am awake about 15 mins before it goes off. I have been sleeping really good.

So, yesterday and today I got up, got my shorts and t-shirt on, put my work clothes in a bag, and walked to the gym. That walk is from Octavia and Market to New Montgomery and Market. Almost a mile.

I hopped on the tread mill for an additional 20 minutes, then shower and walk to work. Total walking/treadmill time each day, 55 mins.

Today however, I noticed that my shin muscles are sore. I don't ever recall this happening when I would walk. They would hurt during my walk down Market, and I would stop for a red light, then they would not hurt for a couple minutes when I started walking again. I think they are just mad at me for making them work so much lately. I am going to give them a break tomorrow, and then abuse them again on Thursday.

I have also decided to cut out all soda's. I don't like diet soda, so I just drink water instead. Also, no more junk food such as donuts, cup cakes, candy, or the like. That has always been my down fall.

Good news is on 7/14 I started my weight loss goal of 4 lbs in 1 month. I weighed 286. Yesterday on 8/15, I weighed 282. Goal reached. Hopefully I can increase that number to like 6 lbs a month.

I think I can, I think I can.

The tibialis anterior muscle, which is the main muscle for lifting the foot for walking, can be stretched by doing toe-points, and can also benefit from some self-massage. Just start at the top of the shin, just below the knee and massage downward, then back up. it really will help.

I've had the same issue with my shins when I increase the intensity of my cardio, but don't worry - they'll get used to the new routine :)

Just dropping soda you'd see a big effect, I think - with all the changes you're making, exercise and diet-wise, I'm sure you'll see some good results!

Thanks for the info. I am going to give my shins a rest tomorrow I think.

Hey, any chance of lunch with you and Larry on Saturday since I won't be at Sundance on Sunday?

We actually have plans on Saturday for lunch - a Ptown reunion brunch. Since I've only got 4 days to convince him to move here, I've overplanned so he sees as much of the city as possible :)

But, if I have my way, he'll be back soon!

So you are saying Sundance is my only option?

when I went from root beer to diet root beer, I lost 10 pounds in like 3 weeks. it was amazing!

keep on track, and keep up the good work.

Kev and I are both dieting, so we can look svelte in our swimsuits on the cruise.

Congratulations sweetie!

Also, don't forget to check out if you might need foot supports. If your insurance covers it, get thee to a podiatrist, it won't hurt and it can help.

If you don't like diet soda yet want to have soda, I suggest you start out trying some of the ones that are closer to their regular counterparts in taste at first, and working your way to the rest. I found that when I started drinking diet, there were some that I absolutely cannot stand, but after a short period of time my taste buds just seemed to adjust. Now I can't tell the difference by the taste--I have to go by the texture.

Best diet sodas: Diet Dr. Pepper, Diet Pepsi, Diet Tropicana Twister Orange, Diet Jones Soda (wonderful!).
Worst diet soda: Diet Mountain Dew
As for the new flavored waters, FlavorSplash (by Aquafina) is the most satisfying I've found, better than Fruit2O or the flavored Dasani.

yay for working on your health. However... from what I've seen, folks who start off saying *no* junk food ever, *no* soda ever, etc, have a harder time sticking with it. 1 donut every once in a while as a special treat is no big deal... 3 or 4 a day or even a week, prolly not such a good thing

oh... except when we are on the cruise... the way I always figure it if we take the stairs instead of the elevator most the time, we can order double dessert hehehe

Good point!

Diets always fail for me when they start feeling like deprivation rather than discipline. And a treat every once in a while won't kill you!

Best of luck with the new weight-loss plan! I've been doing the same sort of thing since February ... only without that whole 'going to the gym' part. LOL Yay for you!

Caught your post on a friend's friends page. Good for you! I agree with [livejournal.com profile] ot_tor's comment above; diet sodas suddenly start tasting good after you drink them a bit as long as you start with the good ones. Diet Dr. Pepper and Diet A&W (if you like root beer) are both great.

As for giving up all sweets and junk food: a bit of unsolicited advice -- don't do it! Entirely giving up anything you like never works. You'll just miss it more and wish for the day you can have it again, after you finish losing weight or whatever. That makes the new eating plan seem temporary and punishing, and also makes you look forward to the day when you can again start eating things that aren't good for you -- as some kind of reward. Try just reducing it or limiting it, e.g. "I'm only having 2 cookies 2 times a week and that's it" or similar, and stick to sweets with whole ingredients (homemade cookies or bakery goods instead of packaged chemically-laden snacks). Learn to throw away any sweets left over after you've had your portion, or freeze them so they're inedible. You'll be surprised how well this works and doesn't interfere with your weight loss. In fact, it makes you able to stick to a plan longer and actually decreases your sweet tooth over time.

Hope this helps and good luck, handsome!
