Harassment in the Workplace (UPDATE)

I finally talked to our HR person about what happened with the jerk in the Sales department who made the hateful statement in mine and many other employees about gays.

She told me that they hired an outside lawyer to write is documentation on it because our HR dept is pretty small. She said that the CEO flew in from NYC to reprimand the person responsible. She said that the write up is in a sealed envelope in his personal file.

I also found out exactly which guy it was that said it, and he is Mormon. Hmm, maybe he should watch Angles In America.

Also too, there were email and flyer inserts about harassment in the workplace distributed with paychecks recently, just to remind everyone that comments like that are not for business.

They also moved the jerk to the other end of the building. Good for us!!!

I kind of went through something like that about a year ago. The Safeway I work at is about 1/4 gay employees. And one day one of the baggers was in the break room and made a comment about gay people. and not a very nice one I might add. using some of our names at work. Well he did it in front of a few people and they all went to the manager and complained about it. He was canned the same day. It wasn't just a write up. He was fired for it
