More Movie Bears stuff

So I was approached the other night and told that the people who paid the $10.00 donation to start getting discount tickets should not have to pay the $6.00 discount ticket cost I am implimenting in May, but still pay the $5.00 cost. His reasoning was that by making the donation, we entered into a contract. He suggested that I charge people who have not paid the money the $10.00 before they get discount tickets.
My goal was to get some generous people to help out with the initial investment so that EVERYONE can benefit from what we are doing. And with that everyone has been benefitting. Without the discount tickets, everyone would have been paying $10.00 a week to see a movie. And more for popcorn. Thoes who donated, got their money back after seeing just 2 movies. Also, $6.00 is still a great deal since the value of the movie and popcorn is $13.85. A Matinee is $7.50.
Now many people agree that I should not have to burden any cost of my own on this. And they are right. I am a generous person, but eventually, this could become a real strain on my pocket. So with that:
I will be charging $6.00 for discount tickets to the Metreon.
The additional money collected will be used in the following way:
Re-coup $100.00 of the more than $100.00 I have paid out of my pocket.
Pay for shipping costs associated with getting the discount tickets.
Provide potential FREE movie passes in the future to our members. Maybe via a contest or some other method.
Donation of movie passes to be used at charity fundraisers like Revival Bingo, or silent auctions.
In the future, I may even be able to come up with something like a frequent movie program.
Now if you are one of the 15 or so people who donated $10.00 to me in January and have questions or comments, email me and I would be happy to discuss them with you.
Please keep in mind a couple of things which would be beyond my control that would change the program.
1. Loews reserves the right to end the discount movie program at any time, which would make this plan go away!
2. The price of movies could increase at anytime, which means, the cost of the discount tickets could go up.

Date: 2005-04-18 10:00 pm (UTC)The original message seemed pretty clear about the $10:
"So here is the deal. If you have been reluctant to donate to the movie fund, hopefully this is now an incentive.
Your $10.00 will go to pre-purchase movie passes for the Metreon. When you see a movie with the SF Movie Bears, you will pay $5.00 for your movie and get a free popcorn. You now have your $10.00 back after seeing 2 movies."

Date: 2005-04-19 03:45 am (UTC)Having not been in on this until recently, my perception is admittedly different than someone who put out $10 to start, but I agree that it's not fair that you shoulder the burden of the discount tix. Personally, I think that the discounts are fine, but it was not my main motivation for attending. My perception is that Movie bears has great potential as an avenue to socialize and make new friends in a relatively easy-going setting. To that end, I would think that the each person should shoulder his own cost.
Probably not a popular opinion, but my two cents...

Seems like while everyone's sitting around with thumbs up their asses you are doing all the work...
and you're putting in your own $$$...
and people approach you because they feel like they paid $4 more than they should?
$4...

Isn't that they textbook definition of "ungrateful"?
