For the last 1 year plus, SF Moviebears has been a very fun exciting project for me. I really enjoy organizing these weekly movie outings. About a year ago, when "Bear Cub" came out, I went to Harry Lit's pre-screening at the Lumiere Theatre. I had just had cards made up for the movie group, and was passing them out to people I thought would be interested in attending some movie nights. When I went inside to say hi to Harry, he was no very pleasant to me. He told me I could not pass the cards out at one of his events. I immediately stopped, and respected his wishes. My intentions were only to make people aware of this fun thing we we doing in the city.
About a week and a half ago, Harry contacted me, and asked me if I were willing to work with him on some movie screenings. I told him I have always wanted to work with him. He apologized to me the way he had treated me over the last year, being cold, and unresponsive. He said he is very protective of his Castrobear Presents enterprise, and has had people in the past try to burn him. I totally understood, since
pyrogeoff had told me the same thing. I can understand wanting to protect your territory. Harry told me that he has talked to Pete King, and other moviebears attendees, and has learned that I am not one of the bad guys. The my intentions are not to compete with him. All I was hoping was that he would possibly offer my group some of the great movie screenings he has access to.
Harry offered SF Moviebears first grabs on a screening of Mrs. Henderson Presents. Since Narnia was already a moviebears scheduled movie for the same night, the turn out was kind of on the low side. But Harry was pleased. He then offered up "Casanova" starring Heath Ledger. Harry said the response was really good from the group. He just called and asked if I would be willing to put SF Moviebears name on the movie screening at Polar Bear Weekend at the Russian River MLK Weekend.
I am really looking forward to getting to know Harry Lit. He is a big name in the community, and does great things, and I am really honored to have gained his trust, and really look forward to working with him to offer the the Bears some great opportunities. He and I are hoping to meet next week to work out a partnership for future screenings and events. I think 2006 is going to be a fun year.
