scents and memories

Last week, I was riding my bike and found myself on SouthPark. I have been there before to eat. I rode by a buliding that was being re-done, and the whole front part was opened up. It was late and there was no one working on it. As I rode by, a very familiar smell hit me. I was instantly flashed back to my early teen years, living in the little village of St. Johnsville NY, in our 4 family house. We had the basement being on the 1st floor.
That smell was the smell of the basement. It made me think of how I used to go down there and hide all my porno magazines in the chimney flu. It was never used so it was safe.
I also remember the times my neighbor friend and I would go down there and play show me yours, I'll show you mine. Yep, he was a boy.
This was certinaly the exploration part of who I am today. I find it so fascinating how a scent can transport you back to your past, and bring up things you have not thought about in a very very long time.
