So you all know that I buy discount passes for our Moviebear outings at Loews.

Loews has changed their tickets effective October 1st (I can still get the old discount passes from my 3rd party till about November or December)

Here is what Loews decided.

The ticket prices remain the same, however if you live in NYC or go to the Metreon in San Francisco, you have to pay $1.50 surcharge directly to the theater.
So I called Loews customer sales to find out what justified the unfair surcharge for NYC and SF residents. He said that his whole team thinks it is unfair as well and that corporate explained to them the reason was because of the cost of living. I asked him why then Los Angeles does not have to pay such a fee. He said he did not know. That corporate made the decision, and he offered me their address and phone number.

So here is what they offer.

Regular ticket prices are $10.00 Mon - Thursday and $10.50 Fri - Sunday

$7.00 Anytime any movie ticket $9.50 in San Francisco and NYC
$6.00 Any movie any day after the 10th day of run. $7.50 in SF and NYC
$5.00 Any movie, Mon - Thursday, Free popcorn with purchase of drink - $6.50 in SF and NYC

I told the guy I would probably start taking my group to AMC to which he replied "Loews and AMC are merging in 2 months" SIGH!! He said the whole structure could change. He said their biggest clients are in NYC and are outraged by the surcharges. Maybe if they get enough customer complaints. We shall see.

So what does this mean for SF Moviebears. Well, until my 3rd party supplier runs out of the current passes I get, we will still have the same prices.

When I do start getting tickets, I will probably charge $6.00 each and each person is responsible for the $1.50 surcharge. So movies on Wed/Thursday will be $7.50. Still a $2.50 savings, and you get to still watch movies with great people.

The moviebears is about the social aspect anyways. Saving money was just an additional benefit that came later.

I will do what I can.

*UPDATE* The corporate office told me that the tickets no longer have an expiration date and that is why they charge the surcharge. I challanged that answer with the fact that no other California cities have to pay the charge. He said do I know that for a fact, I said, it says it right on the webstite, NYC and San Francisco. He said he would have to get back with me.
