So Sam and I tried to see "The Women" at the Castro Theatre tonight. After about 30 minutes, we got up and left. I really want to see this movie and understand it. Sam and I were only catching bits and pieces of the dialog. We could not figure out what the funny lines were in most lines. Also, the guy next to us was quoting the lines as well, which was rather annoying. His friend yelled at him.

I believe that if they had the volume up higher, we would have been able to hear the movie and enjoy it. I am going to rent it for sure!! It seems like it is a really fun movie.

On an up note, the box office refunded our money.

Looking forward to seeing the Exorcism of Emily Rose tomorrow night.

Closed Captioning, or Subtitles

Although it drove my ex crazy, I like to turn on the English subtitles of English movies so I can catch every line. This is useful for British comedies like AbFab if I want to get every line. I can't understand half of the accents that they used on that show. I'm sure some of them were exaggerated for comic effect.

And old movies like The Women were very rapid-fire. It's easy to miss things at top volume, let alone too-quiet.

My hubby doesn't like when I do it, either, but I always like to do it...there are almost always a few lines I catch that would have otherwise been audible in most movies.

I second the subtitles option...I do that all the time because sometimes I just miss stuff or the accents get in the way.

'The Exorcism...' movie was SCAAREY. Get someone to snuggle up to afterwards!

Definitely rent or buy it! It's a great movie. I hate when people quote lines outloud at movies, esp. when you're not familiar with the movie.

The volume for the first half hour was pretty low. It was very hard to hear. The volume improved after awhile. Still, everyone was laughing so hard that I can understand how it would be difficult to watch for someone who had never seen it.

Hi Dave,

We saw the Exorcism of Emily Rose over the weekend. It was pretty good, but don't except a far fetched scary movie like The Exorcist - it was more about the "reality" of it and the court case surrounding the priest who performed it. Still, it was very well done and interesting!

See it at home.....movies like that are hard to watch in a theater. Same with All About Eve.

Don't even rent it...

BUY IT!!! Cuz even at home you are going to need to watch it like a 1000 times to catch the whole movie.

"And that's why you're on the train to Reno."

I definitely agree. The first part (the scene in the salon) goes by so fast with rapid-fire remarks, that I only got the 5th or 6th time I watched the movie.

I love Paulette Goddard's character (where I spit, no grass grows, ever).
