Absentee Ballots

So,

Forever I have thought that absentee ballots are not counted, unless a race is close and they need them to sway the decision.

I just read this on SF Gate.

"The absentee votes that arrive in Tuesday's mail or are turned in at the polls typically aren't counted until after the election. In a close contest like the one predicted in the governor's race, those uncounted ballots could delay the final result until Wednesday or later."

I for one want my vote to count on election day!

That's exactly why I gave up on absentee voting. I used to think of it as a great convenience. Then I realized it meant my vote wasn't counted.

At least in CA they count them. In FL they dump them.

You can have absentee ballots postmarked the day of the election. There's no way they could get delivered and all counted the same day.

I'm not sure why they don't count the ones that are dropped off that day.

I vote absentee. It gives me more time to research the stuff. I think people who vote absentee usually research the stuff more than lots of people who just show up unprepared.
