Debating the Bible with my twin

My twin and I were chatting today and he asked me if I still believed in God. I told him I didn't know, but if God did exist, she would be fabulous. He was amused.

We then got into the discussion about the laws of the bible that people ignore and the laws that they take way to serious.

I sent him a link to Bible Justice

He didn't read it but I started quoting things from it for him. I told him to take it and ask his pastor why Christians pick and choose what laws to obey? He is very open minded and is going to print the article out this weekend and take it to church on Sunday and present it with his pastor. It will be interesting to see what his Pastor has to say about it.

I told him if he believes in the Bible, he should believe in everything it stands for or nothing. I look forward to talking to him Sunday night. I will post an update.

Good for you. The King James version references of "homosexuals" mainly refer to pagan temple prostitutes and not to gay people.

I also read a great piece by a Jewish rabbi that said that Jewish law doesn't apply to non-Jews. So why do the fundies keep referring to Leviticus? Answer: the same reason they took quotes out of context to justify slavery in the South.

Philip, my husbear, has a degree in pastoral studies from the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis. His thesis was on "Homosexuality and The Bible", and much it was about how many of these so called "laws" were ignored.

Turns out that later in the Bible Jesus explicitly "released" us from those laws, but that never seems to bode well for people that want to pick and choose what they want from the Bible to fit their own moral codes.

I think god would want us to use the brains she/he gave us by thinking for ourselves, as opposed to blindly following scribbles handed down from an ancient time when people lived in their own poo.

I'm not sure how I came to your webpage or your LJ but I have to say its nice to see someone that is just "normal", if that is possible.

Thanks for sharing your life!

It's amazing how the more devout they are, the more the selectivly pick and choose in an effort to justify their bigotry
